Earlier this year, I started making a few holiday gifts. Rather than have them sit around for months at home, I sent them off for consideration in Sew Somerset. My hoop wall pocket kits were published in the Winter 2015 issue! There are so many inspiring ideas in the issue – I want to dig […]

Quilts in Progress
Some of my winter sketches have been traced onto the release paper of fusible webbing and ironed to various scraps. The backgrounds have cool blue skies, festive trees and white on white snow stitched with wavy lines. Now for the cutting of small clothes and shoes and later the fusing of people onto the backgrounds.
Fabric Fun
Before leaving for my trip, my friend Lisa told me about Britex Fabrics. It was only blocks from my hotel so I was excited to visit. Four floors of fabric and notions – oh my! One of the stops on our tour was near Mendel’s – I just stumbled about the an art supply store […]
Thankful for Travel
Last week I visited San Francisco for the first time. Several authors and artists I admire live in San Francisco and I’ve always wanted to see the city they talk about. My husband had a conference there so I tagged along. Not knowing where everything I wanted to see was in relation to our hotel, […]
Sketching – Winter
I’ve got a few winter quilt background in progress so I’ve been sketching out people to go on the quilts. I like the coats, hats and boots – so many opportunities for color and fun.
Finishing UFOs
My quilt guild posed a UFO challenge at the beginning of the year. We each brought an unfinished project and swapped. We’d have 10 months to create something with the project. We didn’t have to finish what was started, we could make it into anything we wanted. I received a sweet embroidered panel and some […]
First Dance – Redone
My First Dance quilt originally didn’t have a sentiment on it. But I was thinking it needed something else so I add the words ‘Even if no one asked her to dance, she was happy to be there’
Buckeye Beauty Blocks
My modern quilting group started a bee. Each month a member selects a patter and we all make her blocks. These blocks are 12†and all have the same white fabric provided by the quilter who started the bee. This is a fun block pattern, I kind of want to make a quilt with this […]
Ready to Follow Dreams
I haven’t shared the details of some quilts created last year – this girl was part of the American Quilter magazine article (Nov 2013). This quilt is a favorite of mine that I can’t seem to part with – I keep it in my studio. The math fabric skin is wonderful and I so wish […]
Wonky Houses
My modern quilting group is creating wonky house blocks for a charity quilt. I thought I’d share some of the blocks I’ve made. Wonky house blocks are a fun way to use scraps. I like this modern psychedelic house. I might try making a few wonky tree blocks to go with the houses.
