Fabric Friday 6

A few weeks ago I visited quilt shops in nearby cities, when shopping for stash building/inspriation, I first look for fabrics that could be used in art quilts – small scale prints for backgrounds or dresses. The greens, blues, yellow and pink will work well and the gray with the lines and dandelion like puffs will make for a fun medium to large art quilt background.

Then I choose fun fabrics to use in quilts for warmth or as journal covers. The batiks and paint pallets fabrics will be used for journal covers. The double gauze was such an unexpected texture with an interesting print that I want to play with it – maybe in a fabric book. The gray woven fabric will likely go in a quilt for warmth but depending on how it frays, it could be a fun fabric for a boy art quilt. After having a night terror about hippos attacking me, I have been slowly collecting hippo fabrics – not sure what will be made with them, but I pick them up. The other two sweet prints in green, pink, blue and gray will likely be part of the back of a quilt that I have planned.

Lastly I listen to my husband – his suggestion are often a no, but sometimes his choices inspire me. He saw the multi-color brick like print and I remembered seeing the fox fabric in another display. When I noticed the mushrooms in the fox print, a larger quilt for the upcoming Fungus Fair flashed in my mind. I found a little of each of these fabrics at two different shops. I look forward to adding a few fabrics in my stash and begin piecing this fun fox and fungus theme quilt together.
